Two CPMA students' work exhibited in world-class events
Two months into my new gig as Interim Dean -- and I've already had the pleasure of signing off on financial support for two of our outstanding media-makers to attend international events highlighting their work.
Martha Ormiston was chosen to have her photograph (below) exhibited in a juried show, "The Art of Photography Show 2009", in the Lyceum Theater Gallery in San Diego. She took the photograph as part of her Photo Workshop class with Professor Ron Jude last semester, and he sponsored her entry into this contest. Out of 15,000 entries from 57 countries, only 11 pieces were chosen.Martha will be flying out to San Diego to take part in the opening reception gala. This is a world-class international exhibition featuring all forms of photographic art, so she will certainly be in good company.
And that's not all: Tim Pfeffer will be jetting off to Locarno, Switzerland where his film, MIXTAPE, was selected for the Leopards of Tomorrow Short Film International Competition in the 62nd Locarno Film Festival. Out of thousands of films submitted, only 19 were chosen -- and this is the only one from the United States. Two other students were also responsible for this film: Tim and Peter Corina were co-writers/directors and Kim Gentile was the producer.
Both of these trips were partially funded by the Pendleton Festival and Conference Attendance Grant and also by the Dean's office.
Congratulations! It's wonderful to see our students' accomplishments recognized in major international venues.
